Curious about American Mahjong but don't know where to start? Mahjong 101 is a fun, beginner-friendly introduction to the game.

Learn the Basics & Start Playing!

You'll learn the tiles, how to read the NMJL card, the basics of building a hand, calling and exposing tiles, jokers, and how a game flows from start to finish.

This is a hands-on class, so you'll learn the basics and then put them into practice with guided play. Snacks and drinks will be provided!

Perfect for: Complete beginners or anyone who wants a Mahjong refresher.
Arrival Instructions

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to start time for all lessons.  
Studio Policy

No children under 10 allowed in the upstairs Mahjong studio unless it is a designated children's class. You must have a ticket to be in the upstairs Mahjong studio space.

Cancellation Policy

To cancel a booking you must email us at hello@mahjongbeachhouse.com at least 24 hours in advance of your scheduled session.

A few years ago, I discovered American Mahjong through a private lesson alongside a group of friends. While the game didn’t come easily at first, I quickly fell in love with its strategy, complexity, and the sense of community it fosters.

Since April 2025, I have shared that passion as a teacher, having taught over 300 women how to play, and helping new players build the same connections that first drew me to the game.
